Problems updating avg 7
Desktop versions of Windows 7 seem particularly prone to the bug.
It's unclear whether or not other versions of Windows are vulnerable to going weak at the knees after applying the misfiring update from AVG.
AVG hasn't said what caused the problem, but normally such auto-immune snafus occur when security software packages identify a vital Windows component as potentially malign.
Such problems are far from unknown in the anti-virus biz and have affected multiple vendors in the past.
Thank you Context: MSI action failed I saved the log files and AVGInst at: 105msinfo from last night is still there The folders/files that were in use and couldn't be deleted were on the tree:\Users\All Users\AVG10 ...
Thanks for helping, Dan Hello Dusan, I changed the permissions on that folders as directed, but the install still fails.
If that still does not help, provide us with installation log files again (log file after installing using newly created account).
Should the installation still fail even with fixed permissions, provide us with new installation log files.
An update from AVG on Wednesday night rendered 64 bit Windows 7 systems unstable after it was applied.
Several Register readers have been affected by the problem, which leaves machines in a continuous reboot loop.
If that does not help, please perform full reinstallation as described. Running update must be finished before starting installation ... I removed old installations as directed and tried (twice) to install the new. Dan Hello Dusan, I couldn't reply below - perhaps nested too deep?
Should the issue still persist afterwards, provide us with fresh update log files. Should everyone follow the instructions here for the Link Scanner DB, etc, or is it a case-by-case basis? Is there something I can do to get it to uninstall or should I manually remove the avgfiles or should I just begin a new installation on top of the old? I received the onscreen error message: Error code: 0x C0070643Error msg: General Internal Error Additional msg: 0x C0070517Context: MSI action failed I saved the log file, AVGInst at I changed the permissions on that folders as directed, but the install still fails.
